On November 24th 2003 we will be treated to another eclipse of the sun, this time visible from Parramatta, during school time!

But first, the obligatory warning. Please read this.

On Monday the 24th of November this year the new moon will pass over the face of the sun, and will cast a moving shadow over the earth. The shadow will trace a semicircular path centred near the Antarctic. Hence the eclipse will be total only in the Antarctic.

Here in Parramatta it will be a partial eclipse.

The Industrial Arts Department will be hosting an eclipse viewing in the IA quad.
  • The eclipse will begin at 8:02am - before school starts. The sun will then be well clear of the Parramatta skyline to the east.
  • At 8:25am the first bell will ring, and all students must go to DEAR.
  • At 8:37am the eclipse will be at maximum.
  • At 8:45am, DEAR period will end, and all students must proceed to period 1.
Industrial Arts students may view the eclipse from the IA quad.
Science (and other) students may come to view the eclipse provided that they are accompanied by their teacher.
  • At 9:25am the eclipse will end, and all students must return their period 1 class.
A light cloud cover will not prevent us viewing the eclipse.
If there is heavy cloud, however, then the eclipse party will be cancelled.

But don't fret! If we miss this partial solar eclipse, there's another one visible in Australia on February 7, 2008 - only 4½ years from now!
Then there's a beauty on November 14th, 2012. That'll be at least 70% coverage here in Parramatta, and total up on Cape York, far North Queensland.

I'll be there.
